We were going to write a blog post for November about Bonfire Night events in Elslack and the Skipton, Barnoldswick & Nitterdale areas but as we come to post this, local events are either cancelled or in a state of hiatus. Keep an eye on our Facebook page and we’ll keep you updated as we find the latest on these.
Instead, and given the current situation, we thought we’d highlight a few days out and activities, available around the Tempest Arms over the winter period. Many can be done as small groups, some are more suited to individuals; all can be enhanced by starting, finishing or including within them a little light refreshment… obviously.
For example, in our October post, we talked about how we welcome dogs and highlighted a few dog friendly walks in the area. If that’s you, then you can still read that article, do the walk and bring your pooch for some post perambulation pampering.
However, as the nights get longer and the days cooler, we thought we’d highlight a few of our favourite winter activities and some that our regular visitors like to do when they visit the Tempest Arms too.
Things to do in Elslack throughout winter
We love winter and the opportunities we get to go out and explore when conditions are crisp and clear. For visitors who like golf, Skipton Golf Club is just a few miles up the road with its spectacular views of magnificent views of Sharphaw, Crookrise and Embsay Crag.
For families Thornton Hall Country Park is not just open but positively active over the winter period, with events, activities and a farm safari.
If you’re a road cyclist, a quick look at Strava’s heat maps shows Elslack is on a quiet alternative route between Skipton & Barnoldswick. For you lot, do feel free to pop in for tea and medals if it’s cold & wet, we’re open every day with warming fires when it’s cold.
So, there you go. If you’re lucky enough to find a Halloween or Bonfire Night party near Elslack, to kick off the early part of the festive season, we’ll be here if you’d like to book a table and make night of it.
If however, the current situation precludes that, then perhaps you’ll think of us and pop in when you’re enjoying the great outdoors and the best that winter has to offer in Yorkshire Dales.
